Do you know what your dog is trying to tell you?

Do you know what your dog is trying to tell you?

Quite often what you say verbally or what you think your dog understands is not what your body language tells them – except for a few words that you might have taught your dog to understand – your dog doesn’t know what you say to them.

Dogs communicate through body language, scent, touch and voice in 4 ways. In fact, dogs understand body language better than we do. Your dog communicates with you daily more than not. I bet you speak all the time to your dog. I know I do but how many know what your dog is actually saying to you. Quite often what you say verbally or what you think your dog understands isn’t what your body language tells them – except for a few words that you may have taught your dog to understand – your dog doesn’t know what you are saying to them.

The most common thing I hear from the dog owner is “My dog knows when he did the wrong thing” In fact your dog doesn’t know – he reads your body language, feeds off your emotions and listens to your voice. If you are angry, your posture/position appears more threatening/dominating and your voice may sound harsher or high pitched.
