A few easy steps to raise a puppy

If you want your puppy to reside in your house, confine it to a certain area or buy a dog crate as you do not want your puppy to be left unsupervised if you are not there. Raising a puppy can be a difficult job, they need love, guidance, routines, consistency, boundaries and a lot of patience. Don’t be fooled by this cute face; dogs are dogs and are not substitutes for humans.

Make sure your puppy is homed in a draught-free environment and has its own room, whether it is located inside a kennel or inside your home. Dogs need their own space and they need to learn to leave their own space. And then you might end up with a dog that has separation problems.

If you want your puppy to reside in your home, confined it to a certain area or buy a dog crate as you do not want to leave your puppy unsupervised if you are not there. Puppy proof your home as TV remotes, cables etc. are good to chew. Keep household cleaners out of reach etc.

Socialize your puppy; introduce it to new sights, sounds & only friendly non-aggressive / dominant dogs. A bad experience with a dog, person or situation can cause behavioral problems.

Many times, even puppies and obedience classes can contribute to the problem if not properly run. Embrace the critical phases of puppy development. Young children should not pick up puppies as they could harm them or cause a permanent injury.

Lastly, Puppy loves to play, but they need plenty of rest and sleep. Young children and other pets can overtax a puppy, so supervision is a must – play and so is time – out for everyone.
